This is a blog to track my progress towards becoming more self sufficient in the New Jersey suburbs of New York City. I have been growing for the last 3 summers. I started small with pots, then built some raised beds, then a few more now I have a large section of my backyard dedicated to growing edible plants. I have been so successful I have been giving my neighbors and co-workers the left overs for the last few seasons. That isn’t to say I have successfully grown everything I have wanted to grow. I am still trying to get some fruits to take off, I have never successfully grown corn & I constantly battle with the suburbs most consistent garden villen Mr. Squirrel. I will continure to update my progress through out the year from building to planting to watering to harvesting to preparing.
Hello — and thanks for finding my blog. It gaveme the chance to visit your site. I love the cold frame — although we barely needed one this winter. Happy spring!
It’s me again. You may want to explore Blotanical– it’s a search engine of garden blogs, and you can register your site with them. Cheers!
Hey Mr. Cropper. Thanks for coming over and having a look at the blog. You’re a bit further on than me when it comes to growing things so I’m gonna try pick up some tips from you.
Any ideas how to keep cats out of my veg patch?!
I have never had a cat problem in my garden, but the only real way to I have ever found to keep wildlife out is a fence, netting or plastic mesh. All other methods have failed me in some way when I have tried them.
David B! thanks for following my blog. Looks like we’re kindred spirits! here in Virginia we’re finally “officially” in zone 7–though I’ve though we have been for years. If the weather’s good, I’m out there–and this winter grew cool season crops and never had to buy salad greens. Neat site!
